A Day in Gruene and Lunch at the famous Gristmill! Thursday, Sept 6, 9am to 2pm $79.00
This outing takes us to the old cotton gin town of Gruene (pronounced Green) settled by the early Germans in the 1840’s. Gruene prospered until the boll weevil killed the cotton industry in the early 1920’s and the Great Depression struck. The little town slept for about 50 years until a group of people bought it lock, stock and barrel. Today, it is the “it” place to go for dancing and boot scootin’ in “Gruene Hall”, the oldest dance hall in Texas, and for antiques, wines, hand- made pottery, clothing and rafting on the beautiful Guadalupe River. Shopping in the old buildings and houses is a real adventure as you walk around this old, memory-filled little town. The old general store is filled with goodies from homemade fudge, children’s books and toys, Christmas ornaments, funnel cake kits and Blue Bell ice cream. Just don’t trip over the old license plates which cover holes in the floor! Lunch will be served at The Gristmill Restaurant, situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River in Gruene Texas and counted as one of Texas’ most unique dining experiences. You’ll see why this charming town and renowned restaurant are among South Texas most beloved experiences!
